Blunts & Moore – Equity and the War on Drugs – Oakland, CA
Statement of Purpose
May this Cannabis Trail Cultural Landmark serve to remind us of the racist and hateful roots of the War on Drugs era, which led to the evolution of today’s cannabis industry equity programs redefining inclusion and advancing restorative justice in commerce.
May it remind us of War on Drugs era impacts on black, indigenous, and communities of color. May it remind us of Tucky Blunt’s full circle story, from convicted cannabis felon to cannabis shop owner, the first Equity Cannabis License in the world.
May it be so.
Oakland 701 66th Ave, Suite B, Oakland, CA 94621
This landmark honors the story of the world’s first Equity License, and the impact of the War on Drugs on BIPOC communities.
Our Cultural Landmark along The Cannabis Trail honors the story of Tucky Blunt, Blunts & Moore, and Social Equity. In the early 2000s, Tucky was targeted and arrested for selling cannabis. He was a casualty and victim of the War on Drugs.
During the War on Drugs era, BIPOC urban communities were disproportionately targeted and impacted. Tucky’s story is a full circle story that must be remembered and we must learn from. Tucky went from convicted cannabis felon, to holding the very first Equity cannabis shop license in the world. Blunts and Moore today sell’s legal cannabis in the very same neighborhood he was arrested in.
