Berkeley Patients Group – Medical Cannabis Access – in Berkeley, CA
Statement of Purpose
May this Landmark serve as a beacon of hope, to honor all those who lost their lives and risked their freedoms in the fight to provide safe access to cannabis for patients in need.
May its legacy honor Berkeley Patients Group founder Jim McClelland, and all those who suffered from and succumbed to AIDS, as well as the cannabis advocates and activists who helped to pass Proposition 215. May it pay tribute to the resilience of those who battled AIDS and other illnesses, whose courage in seeking alternative treatments helped destigmatize medicinal cannabis.
May it uphold cannabis operators as a force for good within their communities, as BPG has in Berkeley for over 25 years. And may it inspire continued compassion, understanding, and advocacy for all patients in their pursuit of well-being.
May it be so.
This landmark honors the story of medicinal cannabis and the spirit of perseverance in Berkeley, CA.
Founded in 1999 by Jim McClelland, Don Duncan, and Debby Goldsberry, Berkeley Patients Group (BPG) has a long history of providing safe and affordable access to quality medicinal cannabis and life-enhancing services for Bay Area patients. It has become one of California’s most reputable dispensaries.
With a leadership team of dedicated activists, the dispensary has weathered many storms, including successfully defeating attempts by the Federal Government to seize BPG property, fighting for legalization, and implementing a first-of-its-kind testing protocol.
Through grassroots organizing, legal action, and writing laws at the local, state, and federal levels, BPG has played an integral role in shaping the landscape of cannabis in the United States today.
25 years later, BPG continues to foster a close relationship with the city of Berkeley while providing education and affordable products to patients and adult consumers.
The team members at BPG are patients and enthusiasts, immersed in cannabis culture and innovation – knowledgeable about all of the plant’s forms and consumption methods, as well as the many new brands and products pervading the marketplace. We are experts, educators, listeners and communicators who know that knowledge is only useful if it can be shared effectively and without bias.
The team takes extra time with clients and offers personal consultations and group education, developing trust and listening to each person’s unique needs and concerns. As one of the few independent dispensaries without a private label brand, recommendations are based on quality and appropriateness, never on the bottom line.
